I Continue to be Amazed

My book will not be release for at least another week and a half, yet I have already received 36 orders. I also know that there are people checking my website and with me so they can order it that way. I am amazed that it will go as far as Australia and the UK, and to countless places in the United States. I am humbled by this.

As a writer I not only wanted to write a novel, I wanted to write that best seller. I'm not sure I'm there yet, but knowing how my first two books did, this just leaves me speechless.

On another subject, I like the idea of blogs as a way to get ideas and messages out there. I am appalled that children use blogs for hate mail and hate messages. Where is all this anger coming from? I saw three girls fighting in the hallway at school today and the best reason for the fight was that one was being a jerk???? When did fists ever solve anything? I suspect the fight is not over yet, as it had hardly gotten started when it was broken up. I can imagine the e-mails, blogs, and text messaging that has been going on since school got out.

Kids today have more than we ever dreamed and they still think they should get more. I think it's time we go back to a simpler way of life. Three TV stations were enough when I was a kid. Who really needs 155 stations? Maybe we should start early teaching the value of a dollar. Kids should have to actually do something to get something. They should have regular chores and a small allowance. Half of that allowance should be saved and half can be spent as the child so chooses. I remember my daughter saving pop bottles and pennies to buy her own swing set for the back yard because it was a luxury that I could not afford. She learned the value of a dollar very early. It's not too late to take back the freedoms....We are still the parents.

Now I'll get off my soap box. Again I am amazed at some of the things that go on today.

Dreams Do Come True

About 7 pm tonight there was a knock on my front door. I went to see who was there only to find the storm door closing and no one at the door. I opened the door to see a package between my two doors. I secured the storm door, picked up the package, and closed the inside door. It was then I discovered the package was from Infinity Publishing and contained the proofs of my new book, Secrets. Imagine my delight.
My first novel would be available for sale in about two weeks. I have been waiting for this moment for what seems a lifetime. The novel is not my first book published. It is my third. It is however the fullfillment of a dream. Years of studying writing and writing techniques, years of frustration at not being able to get it to come out right have now paid off. I have achieved my dream.
So, what next? Can I repeat the dream? Do I want to even try? Well, I guess you will have to stay tuned to see what comes next.

Cold Winds Still Blow

March has blasted its way into northern Michigan. The winds howl around my house nightly. The weather man keeps saying we should have temperatures in the mid-fifties by Wednesday or Thursday. I think they might in the southern part of the state, I have my doubts that we'll see that. But, who knows we could get lucky.

When writing a book does weather play a part? I guess it depends on the book. I read one recently where harsh winter winds played a major part. I'm currently reading one called Lethal Wind. I can see why. Weather is only a part if it affects the plot or the characters in some way. If it doesn't matter whether or not it's spring or fall, don't mention it.

So, as the winds continue to blow here, I am making plans for a warm, sunny spring break. I have about three weeks to see what I can come up with.
